Medication Skills & Knowledge Review

Review of skills and knowledge of nursing and personal care staff involved in medicine management and medication administration.

This would entail an analysis of the staff currently administering medicines and the qualification / education level that they hold in order to be competent to complete these workplace practices within residential aged care. While RN and EN medication education standards are regulated in accordance with AHPRA, Carer levels of foundation education and ongoing competency levels need to be determined at an organisation strategic level and reflected in the medication management policy and procedure.
A systematic review at a facility level would be undertaken whereby medication education update, competency assessment and minimum foundation education levels would be determined for relevant staff. Following this review, an analysis would be provided by Pathways and summarised in a written report to enable the development of concise delegation, supervision and defined organisation education / competency standards in accordance with medicine management.
